Our Story
From our first meeting in March 2019 we officially created the Men’s Club in April of that year.
We were fortunate to obtain some small donations which set us up in the early days. We had a number of people drop in, liked our easy going atmosphere and became members.
In September 2019 we held our Extraordinary General Meeting during which our officers and management committee were elected.
We started doing some gardening maintenance for a nearby school and in conjunction with the Caerau Men’s Shed produced a book about members memories while growing up.
In November 2019 we moved to the Blaengarw Rugby Club.
In February 2020 we held a ‘Fun Day’ and had a number of other Men’s Sheds come and take part. We also in that month became a branch of the Royal Voluntary Service.
We were closed from March 2020 until May 2021 due to COVID rulings.
We are now open again and in September 2021 renovated the Lluest Coal Mining Disaster memorial.
At our AGM in April 2022 agreed to change our name from Pontycymer Men’s Shed to Garw Valley Men’s Shed to embrace the whole valley.
In January 2023 we moved to the Llangeinor Football Club which is our current home.
